Ecumenism is the movement that seeks to promote unity
among different Christian denominations and traditions.
However, some Christians view ecumenism as a form of
spiritual whoredom, a betrayal of God's
covenant love and truth.
They argue that ecumenism compromises the purity
of the gospel and the authority of Scripture, and that it
leads to syncretism and apostasy.
They cite biblical passages that warn against spiritual adultery,
such as Hosea, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel, where
God's people are likened to an unfaithful wife who chases
after other lovers instead of trusting in her divine husband.
They also point to passages in the New Testament,
such as 2 Corinthians 11:1-3 and Revelation 17-18,
where false teachers and Babylon the Great are described
as harlots who seduce and deceive God's people.
They believe that God will judge those
who participate in ecumenism,
as he judged Israel for her whoredom
in the Old Testament.
